thank you I will ask my teacher if I can reach him. You know us musician types he’s sort of an airhead!
But what he said does sort of make sense- if you know the mode is Aeolian then you automically know it has a whole step from 7 to 8 and 1/2 steps on the 3rd and 6th. Makes reading the notes faster for me (although I’m still TERRIBLE)!
Thanks again for posting the lessons and for your most kind personal replies! You are a gentleman and a scholar!

@malabarspyder Gotcha, well if you want to look at it in those terms yes it always helps to know the lay of the land per se…
I am not a true authority of the modes although) being that the Canon is based around D Major I would think it is fair to say Ionian would be the main modal sound without further analyzation of the score.
I would think it best for me to not confuse a lot of folks on something I am not 100% clear on either.

I wasn’t asking about the mode in an *acedemic* sense.
One of my teachers said it makes learning a song much easier if you know what scale it’s built on. D-Aeolian being different than D-Phyrgian for example.
I’ll ask him why others say what he considers essential, other experts consider insignificant?

To be honest I have not thoroughly analyzed the score that intensively as far as modal use in the melody. I love the song as much as the next guy but too much to do, not enough time for the minutia.

Dan -
Not sure if this question makes sense. I’m studying major modes. Obviously this piece is in D. Is the piece ALSO in some mode- like D-Aoelian for example? Or does it change modes throughout.
I also play a Prophecy- an Epiphone Prophecy GX. OMG its as beautiful as it sounds too..
Later gator.

I am using a Godin Multiac ACS (thin neck nylon String) and it really is a superb instrument.
Here I am running it through a high-gain patch via the Rocktron ProphesyII with slight delay/chorus.

Howdy, i read your blog occasionally and i own a similar one and i had been just wondering if you get lots of spam comments? If so how do you prevent it, any plugin or anything you can advise? I get so much lately it is driving me mad so any assistance is really much appreciated.
