When I was learning to play the guitar I found that there were a lot of options out there. There were books, CDs, DVDs, teachers that taught theory and how to read music, teachers that taught how to play by ear, and teachers that thought they should be paid way more than they actually should. I tried them all and finally determined what was best for me. So what did I find out? Read on to learn more.
Lessons Lead by an Instructor
The first and obvious choice when learning to play guitar is to find a good instructor that will actually sit down with you and take the time to show you what you are doing wrong and what you are doing right. So, I started with a traditional instructor that attempted to teach me how to read music and play simple songs like jingle bells note by note. As you can probably already tell, my problem with this was that I was not having fun at all. There was just no point in music if I was not having fun. Also, the instructor was very expensive and I would have easily ended up paying thousands of dollars before I became an accomplished musician. I then moved on to an instructor that taught me a few chords and some theory and let me pick out the songs. This was much better but was still very expensive.
Books
Another type of beginner guitar lessons I tried was simply learning from a book. I figured since the instructor was just teaching me out of a book anyway it should not be hard to find a book covering beginner lessons and teach myself guitar that way. This worked for me for a while but the problem was I was not able to stay motivated with just words and notes on a page and there was no real way of gauging my progress or hearing if what I was playing sounded like it was supposed to sound.
CDs, DVDs, and Online Resources
While still searching for beginner guitar lessons I finally discovered the Internet. Through the Internet I was able to find online lessons, videos, jam tracks and more. I also found several complete courses that were being offered by download. I went through several of these courses and found several complete courses that were very helpful in learning to play. I believe that Jam-o-rama is one of the best for teaching all the that you need to play the guitar like a professional band member, they teach you the notes ,chords, songs and rhythm with a downloadable E-book, video and audio lessons. There are tutorials from the creators so when you need a question answered it’s all ready been answered for you. These courses included DVDs with hours of video, digital workbooks, CDs with jam tracks, and lots of updated online content. Now that I have been playing guitar several years I have gotten to try out even more of these types of courses with students that I am teaching and am still using more advanced courses to teach myself.
In the end I would have to say that paying an instructor for beginner guitar lessons is always going to be the first and best option. However if you are on a budget I would definitely consider one of the quality courses you can find online to learn guitar. Many of the courses cost less than what you would pay an instructor in a month. Are you going to learn to play guitar in one month? Most of us would like to think so but I know I didn’t.

How To Choose Legitimate Internet Guitar Lessons
Aug 28, 2010 Lead Guitar Lessons
Internet guitar lessons are becoming increasingly popular amongst wannabe guitar players. They offer everyone the opportunity to learn the guitar in the comfort of their homes. To seperate the legitimate opportunities from the fraudulent ones, you need investigative skills. To evaluate the legitimacy of a course, I’ve put together a few guidelines to help. Apply the knowledge and steer clear of the numerous scammers.
1.The refund policy:
Trustworthy entrepeneurs are not hesitant to refund your money. They want to build a good reputation. A good reputation will lead to more sales. If you buy an online guitar course, do it through an established credit processor. Clickbank has an excellent reputation for customer service. You will receive a refund, no questions asked. If you don’t like your training material, or the product does not live up to the hypey salesletter, ask for your money back.
2. The credentials of the guitar teachers:
Legit guitar lessons are presented by accomplished guitarists. They have years of experience and have played to audiences. An example is Andy Johnson, the driving force behind Guitar Super Stars. Andy Johnson and his colleagues know every aspect of playing guitar. These guys have turned guitar playing into an artform. If you are interested in a particular program you should do a Google search. People who’ve been scammed are not afraid to tell of their experiences with a particular program.
3. The landing page should not be excessively trying to sell you:
Internet guitar programs that want you to succeed won’t try to sell you. They have been around a long time and have built up a solid credibility. They know the quality of their products and lessons are very effective and value for money. They know satisfied customers will give them a good testimonial, thereby strengthening their brand.
4. Testimonials should be provided:
The consumer is protected by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Legislation have been implemented whereby all testimonials must be honest and verifiable. Infringements are punishable by Law,and perpetrators face hefty fines or imprisonment. The company must state what results the average customer could expect by using a certain product.
5. Guitar jargon:
Professional instructors will talk about fret boards, pickups, vibrato, guitar tapping and other skills that apply to playing the guitar. Fraudsters won’t know what guitar jargon means, they just want to run off with your money.
6.A clear understanding of the system you’re buying:
The pros will tell you exactly what the system is about, the benefits and the format of your training material. A good system integrates Video lessons, jamtracks, guitar tablature and text to make it an interactive learning experience.
By following these guidelines you will be able identify the best internet guitar lessons. Not everyone is a crook, there are great online products available to you. Learn to play guitar fast today, the honest way.

Rock Guitar Lessons – Which to Choose?
Feb 25, 2010 Rock Guitar Lessons
With all the excitement generated by thinking about signing up for rock guitar lessons it is easy to become bedazzled with the array of rock guitar lessons advertised online and in the real world. You might feel that you just want to sign up for your guitar lessons, go to sleep and wake up being able to play the guitar. Well, it is not quite as easy as that. Having to decide which guitar lessons suit your needs best takes a little contemplation. Take a good look at what is available to you in the realm of rock guitar lessons.
First, there is one-on-one lessons. You have a guitar player sitting in front of you trying to find some way to help you become a rock guitar player. This guitar teacher will charge you by the hour or the term, and give you some material to learn, and maybe some sharing of personal experience mixed with an effort to pass on some of the wisdom he has gained over his years playing music. This guitar teacher is engaged in teaching to put money in his pocket. He wants to teach the largest number of students that he can handle with the least trouble.
This kind of guitar teacher used to be the only kind you could get, but now that guitar lessons can be packaged and transmitted over the internet, things are different. With online lessons you have some guy who knows something about the guitar who wants to get rich by marketing guitar lessons. He has a few thousand bucks at his disposal so he can put together some guitar lessons on video, back it up with some printed tabs and sheet music and sell it on the internet. Your online guitar lesson guy can afford to charge you much less than your local guitar teacher because he is not constrained by the number of students he can fit into his schedule – he can get thousands of people with guitar websites or blogs to sell his lessons for him.
Not only can you get a high quality set of rock guitar lesson videos but you will get some kind of feedback system where you can ask questions or make suggestions to your teacher and get a reply back by email or video. On top of that when you are browsing online guitar lesson packages, you will be seeing guitar teachers picked from anywhere in the world for their enthusiasm and ability, not for their location.
Okay, now that I have inadvertently given away my prejudice towards online guitar lessons, let us talk about specialization. You can get acoustic guitar lessons which will lean more towards acoustic guitar stuff like strumming patterns, open tunings and muting. Electric guitar lessons teach all that stuff too but with different emphasis plus lessons on note bending, sliding and fret board tapping.
After looking at the variety of guitar lesson choices available to the novice guitarist I hope that I have not left you more confused than ever. My final suggestion is when in doubt about which is the best guitar lesson package just jump in and go for whichever appeals to you and remember that you get a money back guarantee.
Jamorama is one of the most popular courses on the net today. The course has been one of the best ways to learn to play the guitar from your own home and is reasonable price for all that you get with the course. This online course starts you at (I do not know where my fingers go) beginner to oh my god how did I get so good. Ben Edwards is the creator of the course and he has put together a great entry level guitar lessons with easy to use instructions. They do have a downloadable lessons as well as a hard copy that they can ship to you. With the price difference, I recommend that you purchase the downloadable version.
