Lessons Learned From Mike Dillard
Mike Dillard Lesson | It’s been a while since I last read the transcript of Mike Dillard’s Magnetic Sponsoring Boot Camp. Reading it really reminds me of the true nature of the business and of the people involved in our industry.
What grabbed my attention the most was the “shot gun approach” taken from most up-lines in network marketing businesses. Regardless of which company you’re involved in, when a new rep just signed up, the up-line or a trainer would go over their fast-track training. Among the first thing covered in the package is to write down a list of 100 to 150 names of friends and family you would like to introduce your business to.
That is covered first, before introduction of the line of products the company carries, or any other important information of the company a new rep would need to know.
The reason behind this is simple: Your sponsor is taught to make the business 3rd grade duplicate, because most of the new recruits have not had entrepreneurial or business management experiences.
Also, up-lines are banking that your initial enthusiasm will sustain you for about two weeks in the business. If you don’t make any sales or recruit any new members, your chances of sticking within the company will drop dramatically.
I hate to admit it, but the last company I was involved with, we took drastic measures to acquire those leads with or without the new recruit’s knowledge. We used carbon paper for new recruits to write down their contacts, so that we, the up-line, get a copy to keep the new recruit on track.
Our rationale was that, if the new guy quits, at least we have his contact to call and get them out for a presentation. It wasn’t the most ethical thing I did but I must admit, I did it. It was either going around the local mall peddling opportunity, or cold calling semi-warm leads, if there ever were such a thing.
As you could imagine, this tactics wasn’t very effective. The nasty tactics drove away some promising prospects once they learn how we got a hold of them.
There are more responsible and effective ways to market your opportunity. Don’t do what I did in my last business. Learn Mike Dillard’s Attraction Marketing techniques to ATTRACT the right prospects to your business instead of chasing them all around town.
I promise, you will see a big difference both in terms of quality of leads generated and your over all business in production.
